80% Online Purchases Still Made on PCs - But Don't Underestimate Mobile

17th June 2015

A report issued by the Centre for Retail Research and vouchercodes.co.uk has revealed that of all online retail purchases, 89% are made on a PC or laptop.

So why do I need a mobile site?

Whilst this high proportion of shoppers might not be using their smartphones to complete transactions, the study found that customers use their mobile to research items and read reviews. Whilst out shopping, 56% of those surveyed would use their phone when in a shop to find out more about the product, whereas 16% use their mobile whilst travelling between work and home to browse for inspiration, research specific products and compare prices.

The main issue for shoppers opting for making purchases using a desktop or laptop is the poor quality of connection or technical problems they may encounter when using a mobile phone. The report suggests that retailers should make their website more mobile-friendly in order to drive purchases.

The report also revealed that 62% of UK customers are planning to shop more on their smartphones this year.
